To me everything is just perfect on that album. Hetfield just sounds so pissed like he's spitting bile as he sings, screams. The recording sounds so bare bones, like it's being played in an abandoned building, the drums hit like nails, the guitars are so raw and sharp. The songs are complex, lots of twists and turns, but ever so aggressive and just charged with energy. Ride the Lightening and Master of Puppets are great, but don't even compare to me (which isn't meant as a slam on those albums so much as it is a tribute to "And Justice for All") Hands down their best work. Anyone agree?

Justice is awesome, but Master of Puppets is still my favorite. Every time I hear "welcome home (sanitarium)" and "master of puppets", major headbanging ensues!

I agree with you 100%. It gets a lot of stick because the bass is so low and that there a couple of mistakes but I really do think that song wise and feel wise it is thier best album. It is completely shot through with anger and mourning. I like the production, I like the sparseness about it. Even the bass being too low is kinda ok because that's what it is (who knew at the time that Jason would turn into the money grabbing idiot he did!?!) James even said himself that it was right at the time so who are we to argue!?
Every track is unique and has a completely different feel to it even if the production does not really alter from track to track which is sometimes what makes other metal albums sound monotonous. Master of Puppets is a great album and I am not knocking it in anyway (it still to this day stands up as being heavier than most bands of today!) but it does get a little "samey" in places. The dymanics of "Justice' really come into play and the way the album is sequenced is perfect. The way the tempos gradually decend on each track and then build back up again is a very clever devise to keep the listener interested.
Blackened - what better a way to begin an album and that 7/8 riff off the top...wow!
One has to be Metallica's utmost shining achievement. It is the perfect Heavy Metal song.
Shortest Straw is a pure thrash classic with some of Lars best drumming on it.
Harvester of Sorrow - brilliant dynamic attack on substance and abuse and domestic violence. Crushing when done live becuase of it's seriously heavy groove.
To live is to Die - simply Cliff Burton's epitaph
Dyers Eve - those double kick drums!!!!

I would say "Justice" is not only Metallica's best but also one of Heavy Metal's best.

Kill Em All and Ride The Lightning were some of the most influencial metal albums ever created. They deserve higher ratings. Black Album was a total sellout. Don't agree with the 10/10 Death Magnetic is overrated, Metallica has lost it. But im happy they tried to return to their roots.

Agree with that, but I prefer "Ride the Lightning". The songs have more of a melodic approach as oppose to "...Justice" which is just raw. So if you like the pure metal, Justice would be the way to go. I personally prefer Lightning though.

I prefer their first couple of albums, but An Justice for All is pretty good. I love the song "One".

It's a pretty good album. Solid throughout - no filler.
