Well I have 2 as well. A 2 year old and a 7 week old. I use the baby bath tub with my 7 week old and I start them in the sink at around the time they can sit up and then when I do move them to the bath tub, I use that seat thing you can buy at the store that suctions to the bottom of the tub. I wouldn't put my baby in the bath tub until he is like 1-11/2.

After the umbilical cord falls off the baby can be submerged in water. You can bathe your child where ever you feel most comfortable. Most women use the sink or the baby bath tubs because its easier on the back, but if you would rather bathe the baby in the bath tub go for it. Those baby bath slings can go in any tub. Just don't put too much water in. If you don't have a bath sling you have to cradle the baby...which is why most women don't use the bath tub at first. But I'm sure you know all about back problems since this is your second.

A newborn can take bath in a baby bathtub after his/her umbilical cord falls off. You can put the bathtub in a larger bathtub or in the sink. Once your child can sit up you can start using a bath seat which help to support an older baby and sit him/her up in a larger tub. You can give your child a both with you in the adult bathtub anytime you feel comfortable (I did at two weeks). This is a great way to encourage parent-child bonding and turn a chore into a fun activity. Be sure to always stay with your baby during bath time whether he/she is bathing in a baby bathtub or a bath seat, accidents happen in the blink of an eye. Good luck and I wish the best you to and your child.

My doctor said it's okay to use a baby bathtub as soon as the umbilical cord stump falls off, at around 2 weeks. As for the big bath tub, when they're very good at sitting up on their own (6-7 months at the earliest I'd say).

Every child is different. First of all you do have to wait until the stub from their umbilical cord falls off. But after that it is just a matter of preference. My oldest hated the baby tub. I do not know what it was about it but she would scream through her bath every time. So when she was about a month old I got her one of those bath hammock things(that go in the big tub) and she has loved her baths ever since then. With my next two I didn't even try the baby bath because of my experience with my first I just stuck them right in the big tub-with constant supervision of course. With my youngest he didn't like the big tub at first...so we went back to using the baby tub.

I would put the baby bathtub in the bathtub to prevent water getting all over. They really shouldn't go in the tub on their own until they can sit really well, but something I've always like is when you or your husband take a bath, take the baby with. My baby really enjoys the freedom and playing in the water!

My husband and I put our son in the bath tub when he was like 2-3 week old. His cord fell off and he hated sponge baths, bathing in the sink, and I wasn't going to spend money on some baby bath tub that I knew he would hate. He enjoyed being able to lay in a little bit of water by himself and splash with his arms and legs. He is now almost 14 months old and still loves being in the bath by himself.

Only after the baby can sit up by himself/herself. That's about
8-9 months.

Until then you can use a clean new dishpan of sorts.

I also had a large "Bear shaped" large sponge thing that I bought in the baby department. This went into the dishpan to hold the baby in place.

After my baby was about 10 months, I could then put the bear shaped sponge thing in the tub so I could wash her in the regular tub, and the hand held shower piece was a great help.
They are wiggly and very slippery at that age.

Always test the water by the inner portion of your wrist to see that it's only lukewarm and never hot.

Before then, when I was strapped for time, I also took her into the shower with me, and she was sitting on my hip. That way the gentle shower got us both washed and I used no soap as that dries out her skin, but still washes her.

By the way, never use mineral oil as it clogs the skin (and that is the main ingredient in baby oil, and it's very bad for any skin). You can look up mineral oil online and determine it for yourself.
Other 12 hour skin moisturizers (like jergins) are great for you and baby.

GOD bless.

My son was about 10 weeks old (6 weeks adjusted) when we started bathing together. He loved it! I'd hold his head in my hand and he'd "plank out" and float, so relaxed and happy. At 15 months, taking a bath with me or my husband is still his idea of fun, though he's much more active now!

Just remember to keep it fairly short so you don't dry out his skin, and have a bouncy seat handy to put him in while you dry off.

Bathing together is a great way to relax and spend some quality time with your baby.

I used the little baby bath in the tub till my daughter could sit up then I used the little sit up type that sticks to the bottom of the tub then after probably 18 months I just put her normal in the tub.
