I want to know what happens to Squall and Rinoa and the rest of the group. It seems that Squall dies and does the group get stuck in empty space or did they ever get back to Present Earth.

After beating the final boss, Squall is in the desert and Rinoa looks for him. Squall has seen the past in which Edea took the dying sorceresse's powers so none of the children would get them and turn evil as she did. Rinoa returns to the place where squall said she'd find him. There he appears to be dead, however he is alive and the clouds disappear and its revealed to be a field of flowers.
A scene of Seifer and his two friends fishing is shown and Laguna visits the grave of his wife (squalls mother) and Ellone joins him. The scene shifts to the credits and we see the members of Balamb gardens partying and Squall and Rinoa are seen kissing at the end.

Well, the video may seem confusing, but did you watch it all the way through? During the credits it shows all the characters at Balamb school once again. I distinctly remember it because of the scene where Zell chokes on some food.
