Is it Prince hood? Don't tell me that it is King Preparation.

In English, the prince who's destined to become the next king is called the Heir Apparent. In France he's called a Dauphin.

I don't believe there is a word that refers to a period of preparation, unless you're talking about the coronation ceremony. When one king dies, the next guy's immediately up to bat. Hence the saying "the king is dead, long live the king" (le roi est mort, vive le roi).

If a King has died or abdicated, and the Prince (heir) was too young and otherwise unprepared, a Regent, might be selected to fill in.

This time would be called "The Regency."

There have been periods of regency in different countries.

An "Interregnum" is a Latin word for a period of time between the reign of kings that might occur for any reason.

In Russian, there are the times of "Mezhdutsarstvo" and "Smutnoye vremya."
