actually you have the best of it all, as friendship is the single and most important thing in any loving relationship. It is the seed from which love grows which seems to be happening in your case. I would tell her that you love her company, think she's brilliant, and that you are starting to think that she is just about the most brilliant girl in the world! I'd use words like that (don't use the term love or a crush, it's a bit heavy). She will be flattered and she will see that your feelings for her are growing ... she may respond in kind. But she won't be scared off by you being too heavy on her as the words you are using are flattering but aren't forcing her into a corner.
You are very lucky to have a girl like this, and her to have you. Believe me, being best friends is the SINGLE most important thing ever in any relationship.

1. dudeman. breathe.
2. okay. you already have a strong and trusting friendship, and that is the first step. additionally, you have acknowledged that, being in the military, she is surrounded by guys and could have whoever she wanted-- but she is around you all the time! you have plenty of chances, so i would say make the move. it doesn't have to be a huge extravagant gesture. talk to her about your feelings next time you chat, something.
of course there is a risk of rejection, which may scare you off. but if you make the move and she doesn't reciprocate, i don't think you will regret it, because at least you tried. since you are such good friends i think you will be able to move past any potential awkwardness that ensues and you will still have her in your life. and hey-- for all you know, she feels the same way and is just too shy so she's waiting for you. go for it!
3. good luck. don't worry too much. : )

Be very careful of the "In Love" bug. It creeps up on you and takes your heart someplace unexpected. You lose rational common sense thought and than panic sets in.
keep it as friends, in fact you talk so much about crushes why not ask her how she'd feel or what you guys would do together if you where dating each other............a hypothetical.
See what happens. But, make sure she brings more to your life than just a simple "I'm in Love", that tends to wear off after a while and hopefully what is true in the relationship (friends) now (friends and lovers) is still there.

That's the way most people start off silly! Either not really liking each other or friends. Being best friends is the best though! You can hang out with each other and make out later....all in one day and it's great! If she hasn't made any moves, just chill and wait for the right moment. Is she has made it pretty clear that she wants you, take it further. Give her a hug or kiss and see what it leads to. Most importantly, don't let this ruin your friendship. But have fun!

Friendship is a wonderful way of starting a relationship. Women love the attention that a male friend devotes to them and easily fall in love (or in like) with a guy who fell in love with them first.
One thing that women don't like is being put in "competition" with other women. E.g. when you tell her about other crushes or if you chose to give other women the same level of attention to desguise the fact that you're interested in her.
I'd start by giving her a level of attention that is just a notch above what you've been giving recently, and way above the level of attention you give to other female friends you might have. If she's not into you, she will probably grow a little colder. But for what you're telling, chances are she likes you too.
And if she says no, remember that she can always change her mind and start liking you after she knows you like her (just a possibility).

The only thing you can do is talk to her about it. Why not tell her that someone thought you were a couple and ask her what she thinks about it. That way if she looks horrified you can laugh it off, agree with her and your friendship won't be ruined. Good Luck!
