I'm also not quite sure of your question....

Having your water broken by a doctor, if your pregnancy and labor are all going fine, is YOUR decision, not your doctors. Doctor's like to do it because they like to check the color of the water (green shows them the baby passed his/her first bowel movement and may be in distress). It also makes your labor go faster by having the baby's head press directly onto the cervix, but for some women it's much harder to deal with the contractions. They also like to do it because if you are pushing really hard and your water still isn't broken, they could potentially get a blast of water all over them when it does break.

But work or watch births done by a midwife, and most of the time she won't touch the water bag. Having the water instead of a head press against the cervix helps the cervix dilate more evenly, and provides protection for the baby as the baby's head is pressed hard against the cervix during a contraction.

Bottom line, if your in labor and baby seems fine, it's up to you to weigh the pro's and con's of breaking the water, communicate your wishes to the doctor, and even if the doctor is unhappy, do what feels right for you. The doctors are working for you and you are paying their paycheck!

Good luck, and I hope I answered the question you had.

They had a really hard time breaking my water. My cervix went above the babies head and it took them like 5 minutes to break it. And then only a small amount of water came out. With each contraction, it corrected itself. Is it that they cant or wont? I hope all goes well and wish you all the luck in the world.

I'm not sure what exactly your looking for in an answer for this, but in my experience the Doc tried to break my water in my third(and last) pregancy(I was 8 days overdue) and he tried and tried and couldn't. He said it was because there wasn't any left...
