I've just watched the full execution video, from the mobile phone footage, and I - for some bizarre reason - feel sorry for the poor guy.

I'm not saying what he did wasn't wrong - it was terrible, and he had to be punished for it, but is hanging someone in 2007 really the right message to send people?

Surely a life sentence would have been acceptable????

Also, does anyone want to discuss the possibility of the Saddam video being a FAKE???? (Why did the phone camera suddenly turn away, the moment "Saddam" dropped through the trapdoor?)

I feel sorry for him.
I feel a life sentence would have been a harsher punishment.
Also, the video you watched may be a fake or just be another filmer at the scene. The one I saw, though poor quality, showed Saddam falling through the trap door and the camera did not turn away.

If Saddam remained alive, he would always be a danger. Elements of his political/criminal machine still exist. A prison break, a military coup, a change of regime due to social upheaval---who knows what could happen in the future.
Besides, he is responsible for at least 300,000 murders, not counting war deaths. His case is exceptional.
I am pretty sure that the witnesses present could tell the real Saddam from a fake Saddam. And the phone didn't turn away, but the area under the gallows was poorly lighted.
We'll hear more about it.

I do feel sorry a bit for him because our govt is what is fake. Funny that they didnt want anyone to see what really happened except for what news can show. But soon as camera phone can public they freaked cause they knew they are wrong for chanting, and raving things to him such as go to hell, etc... Does not make a difference for allowing those 50 people to see it or the world but thank god the person posted his phone recording online cause now we can see how rude and fake the American govt is and still odd that they freak when they are caught by chanting, and raving, and us officials dancing around his body and celebrating minutes before his death.

Does anyone know seriously what Saddam said when they were chanting. If you look close you see his mouth moving like he answered back to the chanting.
The chanting started, stopped, Saddam said something, and chanting continues.

I don't feel as sorry for him as I feel for the rest of us. What kind of people are we to tape someones death and watch it for our curiosity or enjoyment. Did anyone watch the execution of any of America's worst criminals, probably not because to my knowledge it was not shown. Saddam deserved what he got if that is the punishment for his crime in his country but I feel after someones death they deserve enough human respect to not have a picture or video of their dead body shown all over the world. No matter what Saddam did he has family as did his sons and their families do not deserve to see all of this. I am for the death penalty as long as it does not become a circus for people to enjoy and if there is a line we do not cross in this country when someone is given the death penalty that line should not ever be crossed just because it happens somewhere else in the world.

Did Saddam Hussein feel "just a teeny tiny bit sorry" when he sent helpless victims to his torture chambers, where his henchmen did things like attach electrodes to men's genitals and throw the switch till they screamed in agony.
I think you have not done nearly enough delving into the monstrous, evil, sadistic things that man did, and had done, to thousands of helpless innocent people - including children - who often suffered hours of horrendous torture until death brought them their final release By comparison to this monster's behaviour over 35 terror-filled years of domination over his country, Saddam Hussein's execution was a model of compassion and gentleness.

I felt sorry for him from the first day of his trial. Not for the fact that I support his actions, but more to the fact that he didn't really get a fair trial at all. All the people who supposevely to give him assistance didn't do their work optimally just because of their individual views on tribal misconceptions.
If any, he should've gotten his last wish which was to be executed by the firing squad, as he was a man of the military.

I don't feel sorry he got received better treatment then the people he killed. The death he received was more human then the deaths he gave to others. No sad feeling for Saddam.

i couldn't agree with u more..... what he did was terrible but at the end of the day when u cme to think of it no one should be punished like that.....he should have been given a life sentence or some service or something so he could give back what he had taken away and i agree that hanging him gave the totally wrong message............... nobody knows for sure if he was hanged or not but for al we know it might've been a saddam look alike....anything is possible....i didn't see the footage yet but who knows!

Yes but Not just him. You would have to have the mind of a killer to enjoy watching someone being murdered.. Its a nice humane thing to feel pity on somone being killed in such a manner.. And yes it could be a fake because no reporters were allowed in to witness it. And Thats very unusuall. I was very suspicious at the whole set up..

You should google for videos of what Sadaam did to people. There is a series of 4, from bad to the worst. I couldn't get past the first one and was crying at how cruel he was. Hanging was kind.
