Bush: Congress must limit pork spending
AP - 12 minutes ago
WASHINGTON - President Bush said Wednesday he'll submit a proposal to balance the budget in five years and exhorted Congress to "end the dead of night process" of quietly tucking expensive pet projects into spending bills. "This budget will restrain spending while setting priorities," Bush in a statement he delivered in the Rose Garden after meeting with his Cabinet at the White House."

Now, what kind of BUDGET REDUCING IDEAS would you like to submit? Think of stuff that costs us...oh I dunno...something like a Billion US Taxpayer dollars a day for instance for starters.

There are other ways besides ending our profligate involvement in the Iraq occupation.

How about end the Faith Based Initative, and make religion raise ther own fudns, instead of pick our pockets?

How about end all weapons systems designed to fight the Soviet Union? The Cold War is over.

How about cancel most of the many military bands?

How about stop all Corporate Welfare?

How about cutting Congressional Pay and Office expenses?

I've got a few, not major, but hopefully thought provoking:
First, abolish the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and let the people who were here in the first place govern themselves.
Second, abolish the Border Patrol of the Immigration and Naturalization Service, bring the Army back from Iraq and let them patrol our borders.
Third, pass a "Fiscal Responsibility" Constitutional Amendment that (1) demands a balanced budget (in other words, tax rates will rise or fall to meet all expenditures in a given fiscal period), and (2) the President may use his veto power to delete line items from fiscal bills.
Fourth, Reform the tax code by abolishing the current system in favor of either a Flat Tax or National Sales / Use Tax.

Uh, give me another five minutes and I'll come up with a few more...

Amazing how he's suddenly trying to limit pork after being the president for 6 years, I wonder if it could possibly have anything to do with the democratic congress.

ending the war, I guess you are hinting at, which is not as simple as it would seem anymore. there are many more things to consider now. why not raise taxes on the rich and corporations? why not legalize pot so the money spent on it will actually stay in the country and be spent on taxable merchandise? why not stop congress from wasting our money voting on bills creating National Crap Days. how about all the lobbyists be forced to give their donations to the war effort instead of bribing senators?
