Why not? I' d start with a cold air intake. It will give a few Bhp and sounds good. After that get a chip. Go step by step and keep all the OEM stuff you remove so you can put it back on when you want to sell. Or you can just give the buyer the OEM parts. Suspension on that car would be good but it gets a bit dear putting all the original bits back on. It's his car, he should do with it what he wants. Enjoy it while you can.

Contrary to opinion from those who don't know, they're pretty good cars (VW quality). Unless it's the RS, though, don't mod it as it will be difficult to sell on later.

For what it's worth, the local plod use the RS for an unmarked traffic car, they're delighted with them. Much better than the Volvo!

Not unless it's one of the RS models with all the trimmings. If not, spend the money to trade up to one of those. If it is, go ahead - they've got VW build quality and tuning potential.

If he is going to keep it for years & years & years OK. If he intends to sell in a few years no, as he will lose lots of cash.
