Not until July 2008
SB 1613 prohibits the use of handheld cellular telephones while driving. Starting July 1, 2008, a driver may use a cell phone only if it has a hands-free listening and speaking system. Drivers ticketed for a violation will be subject to a minimum total fine of $70 for a first offense and $175 for subsequent offenses. "Push-to-talk" systems (such as Nextel) are exempt from the hands-free requirement until July 1, 2011.

I agree, that is going to be unlawful, and next 3 hundred and sixty 5 days, right here in California, that's going to be! draw close up and F'ingchronic! that is not in undemanding terms telephones, I even have seen human beings examining paperbacks, putting on makeup, having lunch, tending the little ones interior the decrease back, smoking, rocking out to the radio with their eyes closed and head decrease back... that's frightening. In England, you may get ticketed in undemanding terms for ingesting or eating mutually as making use of your vehicle. it can be a s#!t typhoon right here if we tried enforcing that, yet there are way too many inattentive human beings available who've sufficient worry only making use of precise without the distraction of cellular telephones or examining the gossip magazines.

Yeah...and it should be in every state,as a matter of fact perhaps on the entire planet.I also feel that even the hands free type should be illegal......if you want to make a call, pull over and stop...exception to the law would be extreme emergency, and that would have to be proven in a court of law.

It's against the law now to use a cell phone while driving, unless you are using the speakerphone/handsfree feature. You are no longer allowed to hold the phone while driving...thank God.
