I used to pierce cartilidge and #1 it does not hurt you barely feel it. #2 it takes a looong time to heal so make sure you pick out an earing you are going to want to wear for at least 8 weeks. A gun is better because it takes less time to pierce, but it makes no difference either way. For a cartilidge piercing unless you have totally awesome skin that won't get irritated you should go for a high quality metal like anything higher than 14k. You can get it done at Claire's for $38.97 :) It doesn't matter what ear you get it done for cartilidge, neither symbolize or reference anything "gay" Good Luck!

First of all, if you're under 18, make sure you have a parent along! It may not be the answer you're looking for, but you really don't want something to go wrong or get infected because of a shortcut you or the piercer took.
After that, I'd highly recommend going to a piercing shop and getting it done with a needle. A prior poster was correct, the bluntness of a gun will shatter your cartilige. For more info, try going to www.tribalectic.com. There, you'll find a forum where you can ask tons of questions. You can also search for why a needle is better than a gun. You can also get proper aftercare techniques in order to take the best care possible of your new hole.

consider how your sleep at night, if you lay on one side versus the other. Also consider what ear you use to talk on the phone with. These things will hurt to do for the first couple days (or more) if you peirce the ear that you use the most. (I've heard needle is better than gun)

doesn't matter which ear, but you want to get it done with a needle, because guns shatter the cartilage, and it takes much longer time for it to heal.

It doesn't matter what side you get it on. You should get it done with a gun because its very quick and less painful in my opinion. But it is your preference.
