Thought the saddle shape theory had been discarded and the current thinking was that the universe is spherical. Outside the universe there is absolutely nothing. Or so they say. Mind you, the same people say that space is actually beige so who knows what to believe.

Hello,

(ANS) This is an ongoing debate between cosmologists & astrophysicists and so the answer depends largely which school of thought you follow. As there are several major popular theories or conceptual models of how the universe was formed then the answer is shaped by which theory you most believe to be most valid.

A) Big Bang, the universe was formed from a singularity event i.e. a single massive explosion so big that its impossible for humans to conceive. And the universe was formed & time was created from that instant onwards. That the universe continous to expand and may at some point in the future, reach a place where it stops expanding and then starts imploding but this process takes billions of years. Its thought the big bang took place 200 billion years ago. So there is no neat or tidy boundary to the universe it goes on expanding as required.

B) Steady state, this idea says that the Universe has always exsisted and will always exsist. It may change its shape or form but nothing more, again the universe has no known or defined boundaries.

c) Mutiverse theory, again that our universe is a common phenomenia within space & time and that our system is only one of ga-zillions of universes that are in a constant state of birth & death and this concept overlaps alot with both steady state & big bang.

**Essentailly humans & even the best minds we have cannot define the limits of the universe, the universe has no! definable shape or form. The best we can say is that space just IS, & that its unboundable, space is so vast that humans are unable to measure it. We cannot even conceive of just how BIG it really is. i.e Try thinking about something that literally goes on forever!! see what I mean??

**In my opinion the best way to conceive of the universe is the idea of the "primal void" this for me is the closest trueth, its a total mystery and its unfathomable, unmeasurable and it has no limits. In fact I think thats the thing we find as human beings so hard to accept that there might be something that is so big its beyond measurement, to my mind that's really incredible, its mind blowing, awesome!!. Words fail me and words dont do it justice either. Its beyond words!!

It is impossible for the universe to be saddle shaped because when the big bang occured the explosion would have been equal on all sides acting like a ballon. and if the universe was saddle shaped gravity would not be disributed equally so we would live in a messed up world. also you may know how like a star, everything if focused toward the center, the source of the gravity.into a sphere! and whatever is past the universe is whatever you want to beleive, there is no definite explanation.
hope this helps

From all we can tell from microwave background radiation measurements, the universe is flat and not shaped like a saddle.

The idea of it being saddle shaped has generally been discarded. No one is really sure what shape it is but it is now believed to have the boundary condition that it has no boundary condition. This may mean it is a sphere, which satisfies this.

We don't know what's beyond it, we have no physics to explain it. We can tell from the lack of interference at any "edges" that there seems to be nothing there. Yet.

A scientist would insist that there is no "there" there. There is no outside.
I know that doesn't make sense, but either our brains are not made to comprehend these things or they are wrong.

Man will never know. All mankind will be extinct before they ever answer that question. We are only a fraction of a second in time. Our planet is microscopic compared to the Universe.

nicely in accordance to the commonest theories the sting of the Universe expands on the fee of light (if not slightly quicker). Ans on account that not something can pass on the fee of light different than easy, you could in no way attain the sting of the Universe. So we will in no way understand what's previous it on account that we can in no way even attain the sting.

Do they know it's saddle shaped? I thought it was just an idea!
