If you were refering to a light, would you "switch" it on or "turn" it on?

Either is correct. Once upon a time there were swiches and knobs, lights had switches, TVs had knobs. Now we have buttons, clappers etc.

Actually I dont use either. They are to ot confused because of the vowel simmilarity. I say is the Circuit open or closed, switch open or cloesd,Turn open or close.
This has helped alot on jobsites when we either cannot actually see each other or there is background noise.

Turn on/off is proper English, but either will do.
