In the great depression, were the movies and songs fantasies of escape from thier troubles, or was it speaking about what was actually going on in these times. please give examples, thanks for your time!

Many songs basically did reflect what the country was going through with all of the people out of work and unemployment out of sight - but remember songs like "
This Land is Your Land" - and "God Bless America" as well as "America the Beautiful" were also written, published, and sung all over the country!

Which only proved the average American's faith that they had in God as well as in their country.

Then there were the old Shirley Temple movies...

Yeah, I'd say it was mostly about escape and looking to a better tomorrow. Even the Blues were personal, and not so much about society in general.

They ackowledged their problems, but chose to rise above them. Hey, there's a lesson there, isn't there?
