Mostly yes, but over a period of time.Which is why he wrote dialogues and opened an academy.He was exceptional in an age when philosophy was mostly verbal and peripetic.His teacher, Socratis was purely verbal and he had to hear what he said in order to know.That was when Plato ws young. Deafness afflicted Plato with advancing age, but he got prematurely deaf.His pupil, Aristotle reverted to peripetetic orality that he taught in his own lycee. He was a giant thinker.Period.
