BREASTfed babies do not require food before 12 months and NO FOOD SHOULD BE GIVEN BEFORE 6 MONTHS.
Why Delay Solids?
Reasons for delaying solids
Additional information
References
Health experts and breastfeeding experts agree that it's best to wait until your baby is around six months old before offering solid foods. There has been a large amount of research on this in the recent past, and most health organizations have updated their recommendations to agree with current research. Unfortunately, many health care providers are not up to date in what they're telling parents, and many, many books are not up to date.
The following organizations recommend that all babies be exclusively breastfed (no cereal, juice or any other foods) for the first 6 months of life (not the first 4-6 months):
World Health Organization
UNICEF
US Department of Health & Human Services
American Academy of Pediatrics
American Academy of Family Physicians
American Dietetic Association
Australian National Health and Medical Research Council
Royal Australian College of General Practitioners
Health Canada
Most babies will become developmentally and physiologically ready to eat solids by 6-9 months of age. For some babies, delaying solids longer than six months can be a good thing; for example, some doctors may recommend delaying solids for 12 months if there is a family history of allergies.
*Delaying solids gives baby greater protection from illness
*Delaying solids gives baby's digestive system time to mature.
*Delaying solids decreases the risk of food allergies.
*Delaying solids helps to protect baby from iron-deficiency anemia.
*Delaying solids helps to protect baby from future obesity
*Delaying solids helps mom to maintain her milk supply.
*Delaying solids helps to space babies
*Delaying solids makes starting solids easier

First off when my son was 3 months old I started him on baby cerel because formula wasn't enough for him. So I would give him just a little to help his tummy get full. If you look at the gerber baby food website they say that:
Until your baby can sit up with support, he should be fed only breast milk or formula. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that mothers breastfeed their babies for at least one year.
&
Your baby must meet all of the following cues:
Sits with support and has good head control, and
Has doubled birth weight and weighs at least 13 lbs., and
Continues to be hungry after 8 to 10 breastfeedings, or drinks 32 oz. of formula in a day
I started my son out with the baby cerel and or stage 1 of the gerber baby foods.
I know some people would say I was crazy for starting my baby on baby food so early but if breast milk isn't filling up your lil one then I would say start baby foods.
My baby is now 6 months old and is eating a whole jar of baby food each sitting. And is as healthy as can be.
So from one mom to another basically do what you feel is right.

I dont think you need to give any food yet, breast milk is the best food for your baby at this time. I did not start giving food to my baby until she was 6-month, she is now 7 month old and still eats half of the gerber jar, and I add rice cerel to her milk once a day. I believe that your baby is too young for the food yet, but you can check with her doctor.

It is better to wait another month or two. Depending on the sources, you can start complementary foods between 4 to 6 months. Baby cereal is a good start. Check with the doctor for more details.
At 3 months, breast milk is by far the best food you can give your baby.

Well firstly I dont think your meaning to give your child solids? but if you are you do it when you know your child is ready. One of the first foods you could give is pureed carrot apples or just simple baby rice. However just remember that the new guidlines do say no solids before 4months and whatsoever and they do advise to wait to 6months. I found the best formula milk for my little one was aptomil but cow and gate is always good too. Formula milk is just one of those things that you have to find the best one for your child though so try any that are at the right stage. xxx

Just breast milk until at least 4 months (6 months preferably) - giving him rice cereal (even in the bottle) at this point will just set him up to be overweight or have diabetes according to recent medical research.

Babies don't need any other food than breast milk or formula until 6 months of age. Any earlier than that and you could cause some real gut damage to their digestive systems, which are not yet fully developed to digest other forms of food. The enzimes in their stomachs, liver and kidneys need to develope in order to properly process food other than breast milk and formula. Wait to feed him solids, no need to rush.

Yes you can start, with rice cereal, bananas, vanilla puddings, I used the baby foods, only because it was strained well for baby's there are other things also you can do, like strained veg's, sweet potatoes, anyway, go ahead and start this you'll find that the baby is going to love it, and they will sleep better too. I am assuming this is your first child, and we all want to do the right thing, I am so surprised my 1st made it, I was so by the book. When I had my 3rd, I had it down pretty good...Bless you and your new addition.

3 months is a little young. I kept my babies on breast milk until 5-6 months. If you really feel you want to try him on something, try a little rice cereal mixed with breast milk in a very milky solution.

My doctor recommended no solids until 6 months. Your baby is just fine on breast milk until then (or formula). Check with your doctor before making any major diet changes.

I wouldn't give solids till about 4-5 months. I was told when my son stopped sleeping through the night to start giving a tablespoon of rice cereal before bed.
