some video games but not all video games

I played games a lot as a child. In fact a lot of them really exercised my imagination on top of an already creative mind. Now I did not play them all day long, though I played a lot. But anymore it is different than the days of NES and Genesis. Games have evolved and so have the players, especially the young kids who are starting out in this generation of games. Just monitor his gameplaying habits. If he seems to get too rowdy or played enough hour(s) give him a break and have him go outside and play or read or whatever. Don't let them grow a second skin to the back of a couch.

Personally I think that children should avoid video games and get out into the real world to play. They need the exercise and fresh air; not to mention the skills for social interaction.
While some games can be educational, they are no substitute for real life learning. I try to limit my children's video game time to an hour or two a week, and even then it is only educational PC games that will teach them things at their age level to help them stay caught up or even ahead of what they are learning at school.
Game night with the kids, or reading books is a wonderful alternative.

My children will not have any video game systems until they are 15 and that's final. I babysit this 4 year old boy who just sits there and plays xbox360 all day. He can't even read and doesn't understand a thing that is going on. He just sits there and presses buttons and gets frustrated, but his parents said to just let him play it. He kicks and screams and yells and punches if you get in his way. He is a horrible child. I will never let my kids have a video game when they are that young. He can't even understand what heis doing!!

A Child playing video games is ok. Playing video games ALL day is bad. Set up a time limit for them and make sure they get outside. When I was growing up me and my brother were allowed to play games 2 hours out of the day, the rest of the time we were doing chores, homework or outside playing. On weekends we were given more time. Find a schedule that works for you.

Moderation is always the key when it comes to just about anything. When young kids play video games, it is up to the parent/guardian to both restrict and criticize games that their children play. I personally believe that parents should start their children with educational games, such as the Vsmile by Vtech. By doing so, they are both entertaining and educating their children. In case anyone is interested, the source below is an article over the Vsmile found on arstechnica.com.

well phisically it may not be healthy to an extent! but some games are semi educational and others are just pointless and stupid to play for so long. but there really is more to playing a game then just violence! there are the games like final fantasy and kingdom hearts that aren't so bad at all. after playing for hours on end you may start to go blind... but that's what glasses and contacts are for. so, you should try to play a video game and you may get adicted just like the many before you who have said what you are and have gotten addicted to it!

I think any time a kid does any one thing for too many hours it isnt good. But its not that video games are all bad just Mom or Dad need to limit them depending on each childs needs for exercise and homework.

All day is very unhealthy both physically and mentally. The chemical changes in the body, hightened intensity sustained by playing for long periods can have a post traumatic like effect on the body.

My children are required to do chores before playing games on the game systems and are only allowed an hour a day for each child.
If they want more time they have to do more jobs.
