Really depends on how much you want to spend. One of the best Hotels in Amsterdam is the Amstel Hotel http://www.amsterdam.intercontinental.com
Used by heads of state and other rockstars. But will set you back EUR400+ per night. Alternatively you could have them stay in NH Krasnapolsky at Dam Square. Bang in the middle of the city, at around EUR300.

Or use the Apollo Hotel
http://www.apollofirst.nl/
this is in the southern part of the center, where the musea are also. Rates there are 150-200 EUR.

There are a lot more options, use any hotel search. The center of amsterdam is relatively small, so do not worry too much about the location, as long as it is in the centre or just south of it (Oud Zuid).

I hope they will enjoy their stay!

I have stayed twice at Het Canal House on Prinzengracht. It is in a converted 16th century canal house, one block away from the Anne Frank House, and just a few blocks from the city center and the railroad station. It's within walking distance from both the Rijksmuseum and the VanGogh museum.
They serve a real Dutch breakfast (included) in a lovely dining room overlooking the backyard.
The hotel was owned by an American expatriate in both 1974 and 1990 when I stayed there.
The rooms are small, but have squeaky-clean private baths. There is no elevator, and the stairs are really narrow (just like in all buildings of that era.), but if you want a real Dutch experience, this is it!
