Rent or buy a raccoon trap. Bait it, set it and wait.
If you can't do it, get a guy to do it for you.
Also determine how the raccoons got in there and seal it up.

Either get a friend with an air rifle to sit in the loft and pop them off or else a more humane suggestion is to watch how they get in and out , once you know have someone in the loft banging around to chase them all out then block their entrance hole. Or again you can buy humane traps that you bait , the coon goes in and the door closes , then you take them far away into the countryside and release them. Dont know if they have homing instincts , me? I would shoot them.

If your local animal control can't (won't?) help you, they should have told you what your options are. Call them back and ask them that. Baited cage traps might help. If you could trap them, you could relocate them to the countryside or something. They are dangerous, and can carry disease so you need to be very careful. That's why I'm surprised animal control won't help. And remember, once they are gone, you will need to seal up whatever hole it is they are getting in through.

You can get a trap, or give them antifreeze as a drink of choice. They can do a lot of damage to your home. They are like rodents and chew on things---like wires.I once had some in my attic---but I had a mean cat and let him spend the night with them---they were gone next night....

You're best bet is to call the professionals. Raccoons are nasty, dirty, violent creatures that crap all over the place and destroy property.
Once they're in, they're in...
Don't mess with raccoons. Call a professional to get rid of them.

You can call a service that does this, look in Yellow Pages. If you rent, the landlord is responsible for this expense. Be sure to discuss it with him before you do this.

Moth balls, and then block how they have been getting in so they can't come back. Make sure you can gather the moth balls up after they leave, they are not healthy to be around .
