I have a feeling that many might agree with. Are we talking about a female dog or a person that sells him/herself for money. If it is the second I am pretty sure that even though it is used more freely, it still has the same meaning. However, the first has been used in many different contexts so who knows.

Meaning hasn't changed but its used a lot more now and people accept it.

it probably has, as definitions change throughout time. Take the word gay, for example... over 30 years ago, it simply was synonymous to happy.
