CD-compact disk//DVD-Digital vedio disks.CDs can be either ROM(Read only Memory-recorded things can` not be erased/rewritable.)or RW(re-writable/recordable).Similarly, DVDs also can have this type. As for DVDs are considered they comprise more memory than simple CD apart from high resolution clarity of the picture. Thus a movie with 3 CDs may not be required if the same happened to be DVD.

Also, a huge difference, is the amount of data you can fit on each disk. A cd can hold 700mb, while a DVD can hold 4.76 gigs of info.
