Vegans are against exploiting the work (milk, honey, etc) of animals. Although everyone has a different reason for going vegan. A lot of us are vegan for that reason, that we love animals. But others do it for the health benefits. To answer your question, it all depends on the vegan. Even animal rights-oriented vegans might have fish. I have had many fish in the past. What I don't agree with is having fish in tiny tanks. If you ever go into a pet store, you are almost guaranteed to see a dead fish floating at the top of the water in their tiny little bowl. I also strongly disagree with buying from pet stores. Although where else are you going to get your fish? There is so much evidence showing that pet stores torture their animals (it's awful, there are videos of employees drowning bunnies and torturing hamsters). So I would only adopt fish from stores where all of the animals look in great condition, are healthy and eating. My plan after this summer is to buy a few small freshwater fish and have them in my larger tank. I also like to add things that stimulate their mind naturally and that they can enjoy. Fish are in fact highly trainable, although I've never tried, I've watched many videos. So what this all comes down to is that it depends on the person's belief. Hope I got the answer you were looking for!
