1. What does this have to do with the LGBT section? Shouldn't this be in "etiquette?"
2. Anyone who says or does anything with regards to an episode of flatulence is rude, including the "culprit." This is something which one is assumed not to be in control of. Everyone is supposed to politely pretend that nothing happened.
This is different from a burp, which one is assumed to be in control of, and requires an "excuse me."
So yes, saying anything about it was wrong, and doubly wrong by "blaming" it on someone else.
