i have, but i was under careful supervision by my midwife. do not use cohosh tinctures or teas unless you are being monitored carefully. however, you can use homeopathic cohoshes, which are VERY safe, they are called Cimicifuga (black) and Caulophyllum (blue). None of these should be used until you are at least 37 weeks, to prevent a premature/not-finished-cooking baby.

DO NOT try to induce yourself with cohosh unless you are under the supervision of a caregiver who is very experienced with this induction method. There are risks involved.

If you are full term and are hoping to get labor started, I would suggest the following instead:

Walk a lot in order to bring baby down and put more pressure on your cervix.

Use evening primrose oil (EPO) to ripen your cervix. Take two capsules, prick them with a pin and then insert them up near your cervix before bed each night. You can also squeeze the oil out and rub it into your cervix if you want.

Have a lot of sex. Semen ripens the cervix and orgasm can cause contractions which might turn into labor if your body is ready.

Talk to your caregiver about stripping your membranes to see if that irritates your cervix and gets things started.

ETA:
Red Raspberry Leaf Tea DOES NOT induce labor. It just tones the uterus, which makes contractions more productive when labor does come. It also has a lot of vitamin C, which can help you grow a strong bag of water which can make labor easier.

The cohosh should never be used during pregnancy. If you do go into labor you may be faced with severe bleeding and other complications associated with the cohosh. My Dr. recommended castor oil. Some people say that it makes the baby poop and all kinds of crap. The oil is not transfered into the placenta and is considered the safest laxative to use during pregnancy. It would'nt be recommended by midwives and Doctors so often if it was'nt safe and did'nt help. Be prepared to go to the bathroom alot! The nurse in me has to tell you to consult your Dr. for the best advice. Never try to induce before 38 weeks. Good luck!

i did use black and blue cohosh - i made the dried herbs into a tea several days before my due date. drank once a day. i don't know if it induced the labor, but i went into labor on my due date, and my total labor time was less than 3 hours (from first contraction to baby coming out). it was so fast! no complications. i doubt i'd use it again, though. good luck!

Hmm, haven't heard that one, so I couldn't tell you. However, I have heard that raspberry tea works for inducing labor. Plus it probably tastes a lot better.
