All animals and plants have to have water to survive... whether or not your turtle needs to live in water in addition to having drinking water available depends on the type of turtle. Talk to your vet or local pet store. They will be able to help you with any care and feeding questions you have.

If you mean 'do all turtles drink water like other living animals', the answer is 'yes'.

If you mean 'do turtles need to live in water', the answer is 'maybe'.

Tortoises and box turtles like to swim and soak, but do not need to live in water and do well with just a bowl or small tub of water.

Some turtles, such as sea turtles, sideneck turtles, softshell turtles, and so on NEED water to be healthy and happy in.

The common American pet turtles, usually Red-ear sliders and Painted turtles, can do well in a 'dry tank' as long as they have the chance to swim for a few hours a day- they use water to hunt in, eat in, mate in, defecate in, and to feel secure in- but they do OK in dry tanks if you have a good reason for it.

If you want a 'dry land' turtle, consider a Eastern or Three-toed box turtle or one of the common tortoises.

Depends on the turtle whether you need to leave clean water for it to bathe in. Check with the pet store you bought it from. Obviously a turtle who naturally lives in a pond will need some water to wade in. And all animals need water to drink.

YES! Most turtles (including things like box turtles) like to even have enough to soak in, so make sure there is enough water for that as well. You will need to make sure that they can easily get back out as well though.

Yes, turtles need to have moisture on their scales, as it keeps them cool, like why pigs roll in mud. If you intend to keep a pet turtle then you should have a rock with a heater above it away from the water and an area filled with water. You can't keep them in water to long or the shell will rot.

Absolutely! They are amphibians, which means they are mammals that live in water and on land. This of course is only for turtles. if it is a tortoise, then no they don't live in water but they will need to drink water at least. Oh and a turtles shell will dry out if it doesn't have water. It may feel hard but it is actually porous.
