Before you go any farther with your project, ask six or seven people in the age range you mention to read your story. Choose people you don't know , so that you get an honest view. If they like it go for it through an agent

In order for you get published, you need a story that will either sell or benefit the popular or be profitable for a publisher. With the story youhave be certain it is written in the correct format (see reference below), then you must do a letter of intent to be published. Make about 10 copies of your original manuscript,
{a least the first three chapters}. Compose a letter of introduction {The cover letter is called, a query letter, a synopsis, or a book proposal. }, Tell the publisher about your story and the intended audience.

The is not easy to get published by a repotable publisher. You must become known, if is your first time. Many people get an Agent to represent them for this very reason. Most agents have some connection and can get you manuscript looked at.
Publishers get so many drafts of manuscript, until many are just not read or thrown out.

Another option is to publish the book youself. With this option you must have money to make about 100 -1000 copies, design a cover page, get the book binded and try to either sell them yourself or talk to book stores about promoting your book..

But if you want it to happen fast then there is promotion cost for self publishers, (internet, ebay, or street advertisments). You can also do a sell and sign day at a local supermarket or book store, when you get a few copies made or do a book signing to help with marketing. if you find a convetion, fair or show for the intended audience go there and do some market research . ... survey your intended audience for possible publishers data to include in your letter or find interest for that type of writing.

Never give up. If one publisher turn you down, keep trying until you get that big "YES". Don't feel bad about rejection remember how many times Mel Gibson was turn down for The PassionOf The Christ. And think about the 15-16 year old novelist, who wrote Eragon. Christopher Paolini completed and published this bestselling book "Eragon" in his late teens. Later the story was made into a movie.

Remember: before you submit a manuscript to a publisher, be sure to request the guidelines that explain the required format for your submission. And be sure to find out whether they accept unsolicited manuscripts. Many publishers like i said, prefer the stroty to come via an agent; And some editors want a full manuscript, not just the sample of the work. With any written correspondence, always include a self-addressed stamped envelope.

Most important - you have to have tough skin to face the rejections. Because you sent your story to a magazine to be published, the magazine editor has the option to say "No, Thank you." Reason - usually the editor has hundreds of other stories to choose from, and usually picks the story that fits the magazines format and the story that pleases him/her the most. It's called competition. Very much like getting into college. Anyway, if you want to get published in the young adult market, go to the library and ask the reference desk for the annual writer's market book. That book will have a listing of magazines that cater to that market. Not all, however, so you should also research the Internet, and other library books. On the Internet, publishers would usually have a submission guideline page.

See what magazines publish the kinds of stories that you wrote. Write to them to get their submission guidelines. Submit it.

Also, join the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. They have great resources and networking opportunities: www.scbwi.org

First step is to get WRITERS MARKET. You might also get someone, preferably an English teacher, to look over your manuscript and see if it's good enough to submit. If not, revise it.

The fact that you have a complete story written is a big plus. Most beginning writers never get that far. Now get serious and get WRITERS MARKET. You might also want to subscribe to Writers Digest Magazine.

You have to look for publishing companies on the internet, and write to them telling them you have a book you want to get published. Write to lots of them, because no all of them will accept.
