I came off the pill 5 months ago as we are ttc. My cycles are always between 29 and 36 days long, so i never know when i ovulate. I know to look out for cervicla mucus, and do your bbt.,and ovulation kits etc. It's getting me and my partner down as we have been trying for a while know and we are both in our early 20's (so at a good ripe age). Im taking folic acid and stopping drinking alcohol as from this month,as we are really serious and cant wait to start a family.
Anybody had a similar problem?

My advice - stop worrying!

You can use ovulation test kits, check your BBT, learn to recognise changes in mucous, or the way your cervix position changes but the more you worry, the more the problem. And let's face it, sex because some piece of kit tells you it's time gets dull and mechanical - make love when you want to make love. Just try to relax about things, and to want to make love fairly frequently mid cycle :)

5 months isn't long. Your young and have plenty of time. Don't even start to wonder if there's a problem until you hit 18 months of trying.

Just chill and enjoy trying!

hi. I came off the pill 4 months ago and we have been trying with no success as well. I have been charting my cycles on mymonthlycycles.com and its been helping a bit. I know that disappointment you're talking about every month, its awful! Its great that you're taking folic acid and stopping the alcohol. We have done that as well and both taking multi vitamins and cut back on the caffeine. We decided this month to have sex every other day so we couldnt miss my ovulation (im irregular too). So maybe try that if you havent - I do wish you the best of luck and lots of baby dust to you :) Dont give up - I read just yesterday that 85% of couples who are trying will get pregnant in a year.....it will happen :)

My partner and I are also trying for another baby, and both in our early 20's, I also have varying cycle lengths, 27-36 days. Try using www.fertilityfriend.com it's free and is more accurate, at least for me, than mymonthlycycles.com

Mymonthlycycles claims that I should be ovulating in 3 days time, yet according to the saliva microscope, BBT charts and cervical positions and fluid I actually ovulated 3 days ago, which fertilityfriend.com interpreted correctly. So if you have varying cycles fertilityfriend.com seems to be more helpful.

Good Luck

Ovulation occurs 14 days BEFORE your next period. The 1st half of your cycle varies in length from woman to woman but the second half from ovulation until the first day of your period is 14 days. Based on your shortest cycle of 29 days you ovulate around day 15 based on your longest it will be day 22. You need to make love from around day 10 of each cycle to day 22 - obviously not everyday if you dont want to but if you cant pin point your exact day you need to cover all. Sperm can live for 5 days in the body that is why I suggest 5 days prior to ovulation also. The mucus is a big sign too - it is slimey like egg white when you ovulate also feel for the position of your cervix it will be hard to reach and soft. The other times it will be hard & low & when you feel for it at top of vagina it feels like touching the tip of your nose. Learn how it feels to detect changes, have very clean hands & privacy of bathroom where you can squat or put one leg on loo. I think it just takes time sometimes, even if you knew the exact day and make use of it some women take along time to be succesfull. Good luck & I hope this helps a bit.

Ovulation kits get expensive after a while and using the whole Basal Temp Charts where an absolute nightmare for me. What worked best and was the cheapest for me AND how I got pregnant was by using a saliva microscope. You can buy them just about anywhere including Walmart for less than $25 and can use it over an over again without having to buy a new one. How it works: You put your saliva on this little slide, let it dry and if your saliva "Ferns" you are ovulating. It's a cool thing. More than likely your ovulation days would be 15 days into your cycle to 22 days in. That is if you have a 14 day LP. You would count back 14 days from the start of your period to determine the date. So if you cycle is 36 days you probably o-ed on 22 days into the cycle.

You could just chart your temps just to confirm when you are O-ing. Or just back off everything completely and BD every other day.

(((((((((((HUGS))))))))))) and GOOD LUCK.

Yes I do have this problem I have been trying for almost two years and I am only 21 my husband is 22. I know this sounds gross but I have tried everything and the absolute best way to tell if you are ovulating is to reach up and touch your cervix. It is low during and right after your period. Then right before you ovulate (when it is the best time to have sex) it rises so high you might not even be able to reach it. Then when you do ovulate it lowers again. You might have to chart it for a few months to fully understand it. Its not pretty but know I know exactly what my body is doing. Good luck!!

I always get what feels like a very slight period pain when I ovulate. When I was trying for my 1st child it took me 7 months to fall pregnant, like you I was worrying that something was wrong.
My GP simply said to me to stop trying so hard, by this she meant to not worry about it and keep thinking something was wrong. Try to not let this dominate your life, if it is going to happen it will when the times right. You are young. I am glad to hear you are taking folic acid before conception, that's what I did.
Good luck!

Well my suggestion to you is the ovulation kits buy enough so you won't run out and if you are this serious about it you must litterally do it 2-3 times a day! other wise you can miss your chance. it happened fo rme without even knowing just me and my partner at the time just happened to be on a morning and night scheduals then after about 3 weeks i realized i had missed a cycle withot knowing and at that time i was 2 weeks so you have to stay on it! even if ur tired if this is what you really want follow the expression doit like rabbits!! good luck!
