Hasn't the word "terrorism" become nothing more than a scare tactic?

i know terrorism is bad, but how many people were as scared 6 years ago as they are now? doesnt it seem that this administration uses that word so often that its sole purpose is to scare people? they would have you believe that there are millions upon millions of terrorists out there waiting to get their shot at america, though we have seen no more (except on our troops.) Don't you think this administration uses this word because they have nothing else to go on? Isn't the threat of terrorism at least slightly exaggerated? you can't discuss bush without bringing up terrorism. That's all he's got!!!

I totally agree with you. This administration has nothing else left to do than scare us and make us feel like they are doing a tremendous job killing innocent people and our troops in Iraq. Why can't they just end the war already?

We better be scared and we better take it seriously. This threat is HUGE man. Tagging this administration with this is wrong, the fact is that even though mistakes were made, this administration for whatever side benefits there were, actually did something about the root of terror. That source of terror is Iran. The first recorded "official" terrorist attack came in the late 70s and literally NOTHING was done about it. Maybe if previous administrations had acted, we would not be where we are now.

There is a danger of creating a "Boy who cried wolf" situation to be sure, but it is also important that people remain ever vigilant. Terrorism is real and we do have enemies in the world. This fact should not frighten you to the point that you refuse to live your life though. To allow it to do so in effect gives the terrorists a win, because one of their goals is too frighten us bad enough to change our lifestyle. I think the government overplays the threat potential at times through the use of terror alert system, but I believe this is more of a CYA maneuver than a political tool. If an attack occurs they can say "we warned you". Each person must determine what a healthy balance is for themselves and act accordingly. The long and short of it is that some people need to be reminded more than others.

Terrorism is a real threat. Unfortunately this administration has used it as a ploy to gain public support for what I think is the wrong approach to the problem. Invading a country that did not attack us or support terrorists only helped the extremists cause.

No, the threat is real as evident of the 9/11 attacks. Since then "terrorism plots" from all over the were have been discovered. Terrorists and Terrorism is very real and to deny that is a victory for them.

People have accused both parties and many groups of using scare tactics.

Examples:

Republicans will roll back civil rights.

Republicans will take away social security.

Democrats will not defend this country against terrorists.

Democrats will raise taxes and damage the economy.

Global warming threatens civilization.

Islamofascism threatens civilization.

If you think there is truth to any one of these statements, then that statement is not a scare tactic to you. If you think the statement is false, then you probably think the statement is a scare tactic.

did it ever occure to you that the reason we haven't has another 9/11 is because we have them so busy running for cover or fighting us in bagdad that they haven't been able to launch anything at us? there's a lot of islamonazies out there that want us either dead or converted to their idea of islam.
