I've been building comptuer since 1995 and got my first degree in computers in 1987. I started on Commodore 64's. I found in 1999 this german anti virus called avira and have been using it ever since. PC world magazine rated it the number 2 antivirus 2nd to NOD32 from australia. I have used Norton, macaffe and AVG and avast. They dont do the job the Avira does. Now that this german guy has made it big you can still get avira for free, but he will start charging for it soon. Give it a try. It is the only one I use when I clean out peoples computers. If you dont like it then go with something else. :)

Over 12 years, I have found Norton AV to be the best when configured correctly, and it has saved my networks more times than I care to remember.
