You should report excessive shipping charges in listings to EBay. Some sellers pad the shipping to make money. EBay takes it very seriously and will shut them down if they keep doing it because EBay doesn't get a cut of the shipping charges.

The report link is at the bottom of the page.

Some people do it to make extra money. Other people do it because eBay charges a fee for selling items on their site. The less an item cost, the less eBay will charge you. So sellers with lets say for example a .99 cent auction for a dvd will have a high shipping price of $8.00 or $9.00. So they sellers are smart to a certain extent. Some times, even with the shipping price high, you still come paying for how much the item actually cost.

Yes, and I hate it and some are not justified; however, as a former eBay seller, I do know that I finally had to include a "handling" charge, after trying to charge only my actual shipping cost, to cover packaging and also the cost of listing the item on eBay. Personally, I only buy from sellers who have reasonable shipping costs, ones that are determined using the actual shipping cost plus enough to cover their listing fees and nothing more. Some sellers make way more off of their shipping and "handling" fees than they do off of the items they sell.

Ebay doesn't charge fees on the shipping portion of the sale. They only charge it for the listing and the final price of the item. So some sellers lower the cost of the item (thereby lowering their fees) and increase the cost of shipping. What I do is add the cost of the item and the cost for shipping together. If overall it's a good price for the item, I buy it. I don't care too much if they cheat ebay out of a little $$. I only care if it's a good deal for me or not. Selfish, I know lol

Yeah, just another way for the sellers to make more $$$.
I guess it costs them $40 to put the item in a box, and a label on it.

Thats why I always look for free S&H first.
And second, I take into account the sale price, and S&H costs for a total price.

Yes and it sucks - if you feels its way high you can report them. I think you have to actually send an email to the seller first disputing their S&H fees - then if they dont have a good explanation you can report them. Its so stupid - its not even like an auction anymore the prices are getting so high. Its the same if you go buy it new half the time.

I noticed that 7 years ago. See shipping and handling charges before thinking you have a good deal.

Part of it is because the shipping costs are really high. I put a tool on there and put $30.00 shipping on it. When I took it to UPS it cost $70.00 so I lost $40.00.
