almost all oil leaks are do to oil leaking past a gasket. wheather it be a bad gasket, or a craked peice by gasket, or something not tightened down at a gasket etc.

New vehicles,they don't use gaskets anymore. And they leak. Overfilling with oil will blown seals.Racing will thin oil to where they leak.

Cars use gaskets and after a while those gaskets end up failing. There are many causes for a gasket to fail: loose connections, bad oil, inproper gasket alignment, and others.

Generally happens as you get to 100,000 miles.

Put high-mile engine oil (thicker oil), so doesn't leak

improper torque of the bolts joining the two pieces,duplicate gaskits,non recommended oils.
