Math takes hard work. Lots of it. Engineering is not easy. I was roommates in college with a bunch of them. Mostly civil, but there was a computer science guy and sprinkling of electrical and mechanical engineers.

Being friends and roommates with them, I was usually around when they had to do their homework and projects. From a non-engineering standpoint (I was liberal arts), that math was HARD and it was often. They had to work real hard to get through their classes.

If your son is lazy at math, unless he's a genius who can pick up concepts immediately (had a high school friend who discovered he was a math genius at Berkeley), he's gonna get his butt kicked thoroughly if he tries engineering. I'm talking 1.0 gpa or lower. One roommate was pretty lazy about math and school in general. He was constantly on academic probation.

first of all...there are many types or major in engineering course.i.e: computer, civil, electrical, and chemical. Therefore, you must know which major your son is interested. The weight of math depends on type of the major but mostly they all require strong foundation of math..i.e: computer science need strong understanding of discrete math.while electrical require strong understanding in calculus. it's quite rare if you find no math subject in engineering courses.that's why they called it the killer subject. but don't be scared...if you understand math..it will be fine...

my advice is..is he prepared to take the challenge? if so,he must start building the foundation.get better understanding in math by doing lots of exercise and maybe ask someone for tutoring..

i hopes this will help.I'm bad at explaining to people..
