Well lets be honest toothpaste gets foamy and can get messy. It would look rather unattractive. So they don't use the toothpaste so that brushing your teeth looks so clean and neat on tv. This makes people subconsciously want to buy it that way.

It is why you never see ugly people in commercials. They want to put their product in the best light possible.

Politically correct is the term that comes to mind.

Do you really was to see some fat slob chugging down a frothing Budwiser and then belching out his lines "Ah - buuurp - that hit the spot".

Or do you want to see some gorgeous model with perfect makup and lipstick forth up her mouth with goo dripping from the corners of her mouth and down her chin while she's brushing with Crest?

I think not. Especially, I don't want to see her spit it out, and then smile into the camera!

As for the wedding rings, well, it proper for couples who live together to be married and maintain an orderly lifestyle (maybe in the 1950's) - but it's proper advertising.

Maybe in Europe you'd see painted multicolor haired - body pierced young adults cohabitating together in commercials - but in the US we are still kind of prudish.
