I have worked in the front of house, ie bar manager, restuarant manager etc for 15 years now and I really need to change! Only I have no idea where my skills are best fitted and everytime I use an agency then they just put me forward for more of the same roles, or, rather helpfully say they cant help at all! ANY advice would be appriciated as I am sooo reay to move on!

Have you ever considered a career in network marketing, with your skills with the public? You can try it, whilst still keeping your job, to see what you think of it. If you'd like a DVD that explains the UK business I've been in for three years, just email me.

Regards,

John Galvin.

Have you considered the Casino industry. Casino operations are now becomming more and more integrated with the entire Hotel operation and a solid F&B background wouldnt hurt at all. If you have relevent qualifications in F&B that could help propel you off the ground floor.

If not then there are courses you can take in the US to get you into a decent company. Considering the customer service experience you no doubt have it would make you (IMHO) an attractive prospect for a casino HR manager.

I've been in the business for 21 years and its a riot, once you get some decent experience under you belt then the money can be good, promotion prospects decent and there is plenty of opportunity for travel. Some companies wont touch people without experience but many are looking for people with good customer service skills and life experience with a view to putting them into supervisory positions if they work out well.

First have a think about what you would like to do then decide if your willing to train for a role, take a pay cut start at the bottom ect.

If you are then start looking at courses to do from home and continue working whilst you develop your new skills

Dont be afraid to make the first move contact employers and ask if they have any vacancies coming up.

Consider if you would be prepared to move

Look at all jobs in all papers on line consider everything even if you ask for an application and more information you dont have to fill it in

fill in some applications and attend any interview offered this is great practice for when you get a job you really really want to apply for, hey if you get offered something you dont want you can always turn it down

Have faith in yourself and your abilities sell yourself blow your own trumpet (no-one else will)Most of all dont lose hope you will receive rejections or no response at all in some cases but keep going and going and going at it live is for living so find yourself a new challenge and something you enjoy

Good Luck xx

You have to focus on your skills you used when you worked in the front of the house. That said, I would guess your strongest skills are people skills. Start from there by looking for jobs that require a worker to have strong people skills. You could try sales. Or any other job in which you will be in contact with people throughout the day. It's called Job Transferable Skills.

You say you don't know where your skills are best fitted. You
must have some idea. What are your interests? Do you have
any hobbies that could be used to make money?
You have to work out a plan, only you know what your strengths
and weaknesses really are. Don't bother with the agencies if you
really want to make a change, because they just go by your work
history.

Recruitment agencies earn their money by commisssions so they needyou to get a job and quickly, therefore they will put you forward for the jobs you currently do - easy money. So if you want to do something different then you need to 'do something different'.
Your skills are obviously in the service industry and customer facing, so why not Hotels and Leisure, Travel, Retail
What do you want to do, where do you want to do it. Aim high and write speculative letters of application, show an interest in their business and demonstrate how your skills and enthusiasm can be applied to benefit them and who knows
Good Luck

Maybe put your CV online and see who approaches you? You may get a lot of things you don't want, but then your dream job may show up?!
Or would you be interested in going back to education and getting quals in new skills?
Get a job that you enjoy doing - there's nothing worse than not liking your job.

You need to sit down and think about all the things you can do, and who might be interested in using those skills.

I think you are kind of stuck with hospitality industry. Try hotel management or event coordinating services.
