In "He made his son a teacher" "son is the object complement. It was something he did to his son, but which his son became.
in "His son made himself/became a teacher" "his son" is the subjective complement of teacher. "Son" and "teacher are the same individual".

transitive verb needs a direct obeject to complete it's meaning.
since that in a sentence a complement usually comes after the subject, whether its SLVO pattern, STVO pattern or SITVO pattern.
hence... the complement in that sentence is..
MADE HIS SON A TEACHER
