Ok, you've paid immeadiately and then you get an email from the seller saying 'I've posted your item, you leave me feedback and I'll do the same for you.'

This is annoying because:

1) You've paid and fulfilled your party of the bargain.

2) It makes you feel forced into leaving them positive feedback. As unless you give them positve feedback, they can give you negative feedback even though you completed your part of the bargain by paying!

Whenever I get that email I always respond by saying that once I receive the product I will leave appropriate feedback, but since my end of the bargain is completed they can feel free to leave my feedback whenever they have time. It's a nice subtle way of telling them to hold their horsed until I make sure I am getting what I pay for.

As to try to answer you question.
It's true that most sellers will do this...but to look at this from their side...this is mostly a tool to open up a "window of conversation". If you receive an item that you have won and it doesn't meet your expectations? They encourage you to contact them so they might be able to correct the problem. And therefore "earn" your "positive" feedback before you leave them a negative. Their are some out there "EBay" buyers that are juveniles that uses the "feedback" as a revengeful tactic or a means to cheat a seller out of the item won and or money.
If you go on-line at EBay and chat with a EBay rep. They will explain to you that "feedback" is not required to be left. But... This also is another tool to show others as to their standing with others in the EBay community. Both buyers & sellers. I hope this helps and please don't be annoyed at this for I to purchase items here and I know what you feel. But I try to look at this from both sides of the coin....

Yes I agree with you.
They call this way of operating reciprocal feedback some sellers have it automated so whatever you give them you get back.
I think its time eBay changed the rules a buyer should not be able to give feedback until the seller has left it first.
As soon as a buyer has paid for the item won they have kept their side of the bargain and deserves feedback.

I am a seller as well as a buyer on eBay although I havn't sold anything for ages but as soon as the buyer pays me usually by pay pal I give positive feedback.

I have one neg. A seller sent me a load of rubbish. I emailed her to ask for a refund she said tough and if you give me neg I will do the same back. I did it anyway . Then she emailed me and said if I didn't retract my neg she would report me to eBay for abusive behaviour. I couldn't believe it all I did was ask for a refund because the bag I bought for £20 wasn't worth 50p. I told her to do her worse. Unfortunately you cannot really trust the feedback because of this practise.

Feedback is totally voluntary. If you do not want to leave it don't. I think you have 90 days to decide to or not. I am a buyer and have always left it except for 1 absolutely awful seller. He always left neg. if in any way was complained about in feedback. I left none. He has not left me any. If he had I would have responded. As it is times up. So just don;t I will never buy from that seller again. hope that helped

I also sell and buy on ebay. If someone sends me the money, as in paypal, he gets positive feedback as soon as I see it in the account. As a buyer, I wait until the seller gives me feedback, even tho I have the item. If they don't, it's not a big deal to me if I get the feedback or not. Some sellers just don't give it right away, especially if they are power sellers and have alot of auctions going on at one time. They will get around to it sooner or later.

I feel the same way! Im not going to leave feedback until I get what I won. It's not fair for them to think that it's ok to leave negative feedback if we left negative feedback. There should be some ebay rule that says right when a seller recieves payment they should leave feedback.

True I leave feedback as soon as the item is paid for (when selling) or when I am satisfied with the item (when buying)

I have always stick to the regulations as far as I know and I do believe feedback is important, although it is better to get genuine positive feedback then forced.

I will sent out one reminder to ask people if they have received the item and if so if they would be so kind to leave me feedback, but I will have left mine already

As an Ebay Powerseller I share your feelings. I always leave feedback as soon as payment is made. I have had 1500 transactions this year without one negative, so unless you are a seller with something to hide or fear, there is no reason to expect feeback from the buyer first. There is always the occasional freaky buyer, but the same applies to sellers. I have seen buyers leave neutral feedback only to then have the seller blast them with a negative-totally unfair and uncalled for. Any seller requiring the buyer to leave feedback first has something to hide or fear in my opinion. just my 2 cents-hope it helps!

You are absolutely right! That sucks! I have bought 4 things in the last 2 weeks and only 1 gave me feedback. I even sent them an email. If they dont leave me feedback, I will leave them a neutral and explain why. Then others will know before they buy from them.

I know exactly what you mean. I hate that so much. Plus, after you've given them positive feedback, they could just not give you feedback at all, or, like you said, give you negative feedback.

Ugh. Why can't people just let others decide whether they want to give feedback or not? It's not like it's the end of the world if someone doesn't give you feedback.
