ok this answer may be long, but it is pretty good. first thing first...
As for you Mr. GO FLAMES as quoted below
"
I think hockey is harder as in Gymnastics there are less chances of injury and to harm yourself. Well, In hockey you are playing with the players like Todd Burtuzy, Neimenen, Marchman and other tough hitters and that can actually end your career.
By saying that I dont mean that Gymnastics is not hard, its is one of the most difficult sport to learn, but it is beautiful with very few inccidents.......... "
That is a very somewhat false statement. number 1 i agree that hockey is a hard sport, but so is gymnastics. #2 you are totaly and completely wrong about the fact that there are few risks of injuring yourself with gymnastics. Maybe you would like to ask my sister how she broke 2 vertebrate in her lower back, and had to wear a back brace for 6 months and couldnt return to her most beloved sport again because if she did she possibly could have been paralyzed. 3 i do agree that there are risks in hockey also.. and if you really dont think that gymnast have to push themselves also look at my sisters muscles. Quite defined they are showing how much effort and strehngth is required. Ask how many times it took her to perform new twists and leaps. Gymnast are constantly striving for perfection.
but in my personal opinion both sports are extremely hard and require a lot of commitment, not just from the player/gymnast themselves but also from the family. Constantly traveling to and form practices adn games/meets. so there is no yes or no answer but both of the sports require a lot of the same things such as balance, stamina, muscle, speed, agility, flexibilaty, trust, determination, perseverance, so on and so forth. You and your friedn should both support each others talents and most likely if you work together you wil beable to help each learn and improve one another's skills

Ok so any of you who are saying gymnastics isn't a sport, are stupid. I am beyond tough I've broken ankles and I have hip displaysia and many more things and I've never cried ONCE despite the large amounts of pain that I am in. I could get punched in the face and be totally fine. I'm beyond strong, due to the amount of conditioning we do at gymnastics. I've been doing this sport since I was 2, and I can definitely say that gymnastics is not only harder than hockey, it's the hardest sport. Throwing your whole body through the air and doing multiple flips is SO hard, and doing it on a beam is even harder. Yes, the judging is controversial, but there always IS a winner, and it's extremely competitive. Gymnastics is very difficult sport that involves agility, strength, and just a little bit of flexibility.

Rather than debate just take some time and try each others sport of choice just casually. I think you will both be impressed at the skill and dedication it takes to perform either sport at a quality level. I have played hockey for many years (over 30 ) and can attest to how hard it is to play at a high level. I tried some gymnastic things in high school during gym and can say without much doubt that I am never going to be very good at that sport. I am sure that you could say the same and if your friend tried gymnastics they would feel the same about it. Instead of debate just appreciate your freindship and show each other mutual respect. They are both sports that require a tremendous amount of skill and hard work along with a passion of the sport. And to be good at any sport is hard, every physically demanding sport has its risks and has its rewards.

One cannot judge two completely different sports on such a topic as which are harder or not.
Both Hockey and Gymnastics are two very hard sports that are completely different from each other. In Gymnastics, you must have great balance, all muscle must be strong and sculpted; as well you must have great accuracy and perfection to detail (I know this is not all one must do to practise the sport in Gymnastics, buts its a start).
As for hockey, one must be a great skater and has great eye-hand-stick coordination as the puck is bouncing all over the place the majority of time. And for anyone that is a skater...we all know how hard that is to accomplish, especially with trying to manoeuvre your way around other skaters and towards the puck. Shooting is an ability that only very few possess. To be able to shoot the puck accurately while skating and moving fast enough to run an adult male over at a net that is covered approximately 75% or so...is a great skill in deed.
So…if you ask me…both sports are equally hard…they just required different skill sets then one another that are both equally hard to acquire and perfect.

Actually, the younger you start in hockey the better, too. You also need to learn to flip and get stronger in hockey, too. I've seen some body checks that flipped some guys right over the boards and into the bench area. :-P
Anything that involves serious working out, toughness, grace, and skill all combined together... and doing it at 30 mph on skates, has got to be the toughest thing in sports to do. That said, put some skates on those gymnasts, and they'd be up there. No one should take away from the hard work and skill that goes into doing what they do.

I was actually a gymnast for about 10 years....now I play old-man hockey amongst other sports....no gymnastics since college.
Gymnastics is harder....the time that you have to put toward every event is amazing...and you are striving for absolute perfection in each event as well!
Neither of the sports are easy...gymnastics was a great "base" for me as a kid...it allows you to get to know your body and really build strength and flexibility...all of which made all sports easier for me as I grew up.

hockey is all about stamina and endurance. While it is also important to be able to balance yourself in hockey (for skating purposes, which lend themselves to a number of skills), many players will agree that you have to be prepared for a potential hour-long marathon every time and therefore have to be very dedicated to cardio-oriented workouts.
my sister does gymnastics, and that sport is all about timing and balance. unlike hockey, you have to put complete trust in yourself and you alone, so the individual factor is set a little higher. unfortunately, i don't know nearly as much about gymnastics, but i would imagine that is mostly about repetition/perfection than anything else.
being a hockey player all my life, i'm going to have to go with the biased answer and say hockey is a harder sport.

well I've been a serious hockey player since i was a kid playing in AAA travelling leagues my hole life and the training I've done you wouldn't understand if you where not at my level. but i can't really say anything about Gymnastics cause i never done it so i can't say. when i played a 74 games season and travelled by bus from city to city and had to gain some weight to stay at a good size but also be working out 7 days a week is really hard. plus we also went in big hockey tournaments so i would be playing over 110 games a season counting my regular season, playoffs, and plus several tournaments a year. so to me hockey with all the travelling and working out and playing 5 games a week is pretty hard but i loved every moment of it and never would change a thing in my life.

The hardest sport is gymnastics because you have to learn hoew to flip and get stronger. Also if you don;t start when you are younger it's harder to start.
