The SS was formed as a "social status" club in the beginning, with membership only being approved after a check into the background of a would-be applicant to see if he was approved to have pure "Aryan" blood going back a number of generations. Many of Germany's top people ( doctors, lawyers, business executives, etc. ) joined it as a political affiliation.
It was considered an elite force which drew many young men to want to become a part of it. The attraction of the black uniform and the special recognition, status, and treatment of it's members became much sought after by many German's. ( Like the feeling of becoming a part of some elite force with a country today.)
The SS (Warden?), Waffen and Panzer had many roles. They were under the command of Heinrich Himmler who was only second in power to Hitler himself. Some believe he even had more influence on German policy than Hitler.
They were a para-military organization that policed the regular military forces to help keep the common soldier in line. They oversaw the extermination of political prisoners and the Jewish, Slavic, or any other people that they considered to be "unworthy" to live. They guarded prison labor and extermination camps. They were used as "shock" troops and had the well earned reputation for being ruthless in their handling of prisoners or any persons they considered to be "enemies" of Germany.
Later as bloodshed caused a reduction of their ranks the rules to becoming a member were loosened up a bit to make it easier for people to become a member.
When the war ended with the defeat of Germany, trials were held on those that were thought to have played a role in breaking the rules of war or the genocidal and/or murder of millions of innocent people. They had the highest percentage of any service group to be found guilty of war crimes or what has become known today as crimes against humanity.

The SS was composed of various organizations, the SD, Gestapo, Home Security Police, Concentration/Death Camp Guards, and the military arm...the Waffen SS.
There was much overlap between the SD/Gestapo and Security Police, but then again, that's how Hitler operated, having his 'sub-chief' fight among themselves for turf control.
There was no such thing as the Warden SS, unless you're referring to the Death Camp Guard or perhaps you meant the Waffen SS which was the field army units.

the first person pretty much nailed what their role was, but they had 2 branches. SS stands for "Shuetzstaffen" (protective forces), a fancy name for "henchmen" (to Hitler). The Waffen (army) SS worked directly w/the Nazi Army, traveling around and rounding up Jews, Poles, people of color, homosexuals, retarded, mentally ill people, resistance fighters and anyone the Nazi's deemed "undesirable". They'd do the executions sometimes and other times just delivered these victims to the army for incarceration or sometimes immediate killing. Not everyone spent months or years in a death camp.
This was "efficient" killing was usually done in what were known as "mobile killing units", traveling throughout lands they'd conquered, carrying this out, from town to town. The victims were usually forced to dig their own mass graves, then lined up and shot. Sadly, I know most of the details are true (unlike many who claim the Holocaust never happened) because my late cousin, from Germany, was an SS officer, serving with these units, mostly in Poland and along the Russian border.
Amazingly, when I visited him in '72, he didn't seem at all distressed at what he'd done, and wanted to show me his photo albums, in which he posed at death camps with his buddy, SS murderers! He SEEMED like Mr. Nice guy...just goes to show you never know. He was never brought to any kind of trial, that I know of and I was so disgusted, I never visited again, though other family members from the US did.

this could be greater answer than you're inquiring for, yet stay with me.. :) intercourse is the main efficient dynamic in our lives, male or lady. yet we are distinct: case in point; youthful men are in particular interested in lady bodies. men being the Honey Bee. it truly is equipped in to BE interested in a exhibiting lady. men & boys have no selection in the situation. females have no selection yet too entice. they're the flower. So, promotion focuses lots on cosmetics for women and makes use of intercourse to entice men to each thing else. enjoying to the two sexes vulnerabilities, or greater efficient to call that primal weaknesses. So, whilst men are youthful, or did not get as lots mom nurturing as a baby or toddler, then they could be interested in BREASTS. additionally, whilst a youthful guy is questioning a pair of lady, he's not questioning IF she might make a stable mom or spouse if he have been given her pregnant. he's principally targeted on SCORING. So the version between that and how a woman would think of approximately it, being the flower, "is that this guy a available family individuals guy? a stable father, Husband?" This dampens the appeal so females could decide, to pass added? or not. dating?
