Yes they should.
And I am not hysterical. Just worried.
I am in the medical research field. Right now, a whole new field of research is opening up, that is called "epigenetics". It studies how some environmental conditions can modify DNA without an actual mutation, and cause devastating (and previously unknown) diseases. The first such modification observed was DNA demethylation. This has been shown to happen when cloning animals (and is probably the cause of so many failures to get one viable clone). It's also the main reason why all attempts at cloning humans (or any primate) have failed.
This technology is NOT ready yet. There ARE things we do not understand properly. Until we do it is very unwise to allow these products on the market at all !

Absolutely!! No one knows the long term effects that these animals may have on the human body. We are already eating genetically modified corn and soy although most people do not even realize it. The FDA is becoming a shill for the food and drug manufacturers. We need stronger regulations for synthetic foods. (I work in the drug industry and I know how bad the FDA has gotten over the last few years. Another gift of the Neo-Cons, Free market no matter how it may effect the population).

Whether or not it is identical to natural meat, I think it should be labeled. Health issues are not the only issues here. I personally wouldn't mind eating cloned meat, but some people do. Since the government has policies to accommodate diverse religious beliefs and mundane beliefs, such as the church v. state argument, etc., I think this food should be clearly labeled so those that wish to avoid it, for whatever reason, are able to.

Yes I believe they should have to label the meat as "cloned" I do not want to consume it! It is unnatural and not a normal part of nature. Look how many times we have been told that something was "perfectly safe" and then later we hear "oops...We thought it was" They have to label everything else we eat, drink, and wear so why not cloned meat. They are forcing all trans fat out of foods or threatening to sue....So why do we have to put up with eating something that is against nature and not be advised of it. And We should have the right to know what we are eating and then have the right to make the choice for ourselves! And thank you for the web site I will have to check it out.

Only if it can be demonstrated that there is some sort of real difference. If there is no relevant quality or safety difference - who cares?
Hint: We have been genetically modifying plants and animals for 5,000 years. There is nothing on the grocery shelves that has not been altered by human intervention.

I have far more important things to discuss with government regulators than this topic.

No. There is virtually no difference. Just a bunch of hysterical people thinking it is "different".
