I want to attach my new dishwashers waste pipe and i think I should be able to do it by attaching it to the spigot that sticks out the side of the u-bend pipe under my sink. However, this has a huge steel bolt cap 'thing' locked on it and i cant budge it for the life of me. Any ideas of what tools i could use maybe?. Otherwise I guess I will have to cut a new fitting on top of the waste pipe next to the washing machine one that is already there. Any advice/help on best course of action greatly appreciated.

you don't say, but if this is in the kitchen, do you have a garbage disposal? if you do there is usually a knock out located on the back, top of it under the sink. you might have to clear out under the sink and crawl in on your back to see it, or use a mirror. inside the 3/4" nipple will be a plastic or aluminum plug, punch it into the disposal. then attach your drain hose to the nipple. if this does not apply to your situation, then take a good look at the 'p' trap and pipe connections and go to a good hardware store. there is a pipe made that has a nipple for a dishwasher drain that you can install by just replacing a section of your drain pipe. that might be an easier option as beating on the old cap may create a leak under the pressure of the dishwasher pumping out. when i redid the drains under my sink i used two pieces of pipe to replace one, one of which had the nipple. i hope this helps you come up with a solution for your situation. good luck, and happy new year!

If the "spigot that sticks out the side..." is approx. 1/2 - 3/4" in diameter and is just a plain, capped tube - and if there would be 3/4" (or more) of plain tube left - I suggest sawing the cap off. The dishwasher drain hose would slip over the stub and be secured with a hose clamp.
