Wow, thats a technical question.

First, what type of printer?
If you have a little $50 inkjet desktop printer, it'll never happen. Well, I wont say it'll never happen, but its something I wouldnt want to try and do.

I work in pre-press for a commercial printer.
We just invested ALOT of money in getting our proofs (that we send to the customer) to match our $1.5 million dollar press.
We have profiled our press, and our proofer, to match each other (a tedious time, and money intensive process).
We needed special software to drive our Epson 7600 printer. And even then, we still are not 100% accurate, but we are in the 98% range.

We get customers all the time who design their own forms, and then print it out on a $50 desktop printer, and complain because the PMS color they picked on screen doesnt match their print out. Even though our printed piece matches the PMS swatch book exactly.
I could go into color gamut, tone reproduction, etc., etc., etc...

But I dont think youll be able to do it unless you want to spend alot of time, and more money that I think you are willing to spend.

Hope this helps.

Was looking to do this for our Mapping and Charting cell. But, way too expensive. Unless there is a real need such as a printing business where you're getting serious cash back, the return on your investment just wont be there.
