I think suffering for a longer period of time in prison (in a filtlhy cell and little to eat, and not having any contact with the outside world), may have been more undifined for Saddam than simple death.
What do you think guys?

Yes! I totally agree with you. He killed far too many people just to be hanged! He was cruel and never thought of anybody else but himself (and his money).

Well, the main thing he is gone now. True it may have been nice to let him experience some of the suffering he caused others, but, it not going to happen in this day and age. Heck, I figured the whole time all this was going on he had a real nice private cell/living area and good food. Maybe I'm wrong.

I can assure you that the last hours of a guy facing death by hanging is as bad as ten years of jail. You go through hell and back several times. It is a wonder that those people facing the death penalty don't have a heart attack before facing their last hour.
If you were to jail him... he would appeal for the rest of his life and we would never hear the end of it. Plus, it is us the people who pay for the court costs and keeping him alive in jail.
Best thing is to forget about it. Every dog has his day... and he had his day more often than most people. I am sick of hearing about him on this website... What is the obsession about... A martyr... he will never be...

I'm against the death penalty (partly for the reason you just said, and also because there are mistake sometimes), but if they decided to kill Saddam, I think that hanging people is a act of barbary. We're not in Middle Age anymore ! Do American people are still in their wild west times ??
