They, thought England would win the war, and they wanted to stay on their good side to avoid being persecuted after the war.
They were wrong, they were chastised from both sides.
Used by the English and hated by the Revolutionist.

Loyalists were loyal to England. They wanted to remain colonists under the mother country.

Well as u know the loyalists were with the king and the king wanted the taxes so I guss they were loyalists in for the money.
