I would say that traditional Chinese culture recognised the sacredness of all of the natural world. All traditional earth based cultures have recognised the sacredness of life and the natural world and universe. These traditional cultures recognised the importance of remaining in harmony and balance with nature and the need to respect all life.

Traditional Chinese culture was and is deeply aware of the interconnectedness between the movement of the life force within the individual person and that of the celestial bodies. I do not believe they would go so far as to "worship" the sun and moon as "deities",.. but they would honor and recognise these celestial spheres as representing the great forces of YIN and YANG which govern the movement and flow of all life.
