Two possibilities - one a normal router with a good antenna, probably a dipole up on the roof. But if you are talking about a large building. you can get a bridging router that acts like a repeater. You put them in strategic locations around the building and try to get a good signal everywhere - especially if you are roaming around with a laptop. My router is rated at 35 metres - out in the open with a good antenna and no interference from other routers that would go 200 metres. But where I live surrounded by the bloody things - no chance! I'm thinking of tin foil wallpaper to keep signals out!

ok, I assume you are doing this indoors right. go to staples, walmart on any other retail and get a wireless router, routers are alot better than access points.
try to find a linksys router, linksys is by far my favorite. try to browse this models.

WRT54GR
WRT54GX4
WRT54GL
these are cool.
also if you have a desktop computer you need a pci or usb wireless card, try these.

WMP54GR
WMP54GX4
WUSB54GR with range booster.

if you have a laptop with a wireless card, get the router first and try it, if your laptop needs a wireless card or the one on it is not strong enough, try these models.
WPC54GR
WPC54GX4
WUSB54G with range booster
go to www.linksys.com and get more info
email if more help needed.
