Because every human being has, "baked in", something called craving-and-attachment. Whatever we like, we attach ourselves to it. Which, immediately, produces craving for more. Turning up the volume is one way to have "more".

Because you can "feel" the music if it is loud. And sometimes I think people like to show off. (i.e. Hey, look at me! I have a loud system. My glass is about to shatter, but that's fine as long as everyone within 5 miles hears my loud system and obnoxious music.)

Because we want to hear it out loud. If there's a silent sound we can't hear all too well so we turn up the volume. That's is my theory.

Because when we hear something we like we have to sing loud. Natural habit to turn up the radio so we don't hear how bad we sound. Lol! :-)

well, when i hear a song that i like, i turn it up because it reminds me of a certain time in my life...
example: Shimmer by Fuel...

whenever i hear that it reminds me of when i was 18, moving from a small town in Iliinois to Seattle...i was doing it all by myself and it just reminded me of a great time and a city that i have grown to love...i think everyone has their own reasons for turning it up

So there's this void, and you can fill it with this thing called sound. Some sounds you like, others not so much. So it makes sense that you would fill it as much as possible with sounds you like.
