Cathy C, where did I imply that I was so involved with how she spends her money.I really don't care.I was just throwing the question out there. Why bother answering the question if it bothers you? I have a life-It's too bad you don't.

I think she does plenty in the US. Whether those gifts come from her wallet or her sponsors, it's still more than alot of the other celebs do for the ordinary battlers. What she does after that with her money is her business.
Bless you Oprah

I am sure she does her far sure in the U.S.A. and I am sure that a lot of charity's that sponsor Africa have donated more, but that money is stolen and / or less then 5% is actually given to the African Community after everyone gets there hands on it. With Oprah there was no middle man, I think it is wonderful that someone had the means to help those that wanted a Education, I am sure that the Gates Foundation has given more for Medical vaccines and Aides awareness. And I am sure since I have defended Miss Oprah you probably think that I am a Black woman-NOT, I am white, and she does more in her little finger then most Celebrities, Thank-you.

Diana J has a good point. A LOT of relief money and aid that goes to Africa is misused and not spent how you think.
Like when Americans donate their clothes to Africa? The Africans are not given the clothing. It's sold to a Merchant who resells it to the Africans, albeit cheap.
Aid money that goes to African charities? Misused. Completely.
At least a school is a step in the direction toward helping Africans help themselves. One of the biggest issues there is that the people of Africa are quite used to being handed things and in many areas it's hard to find people who are willing to make their own way.
Should she have spent it in the US? Not necessarily. Help is needed everywhere. If you take a whole-world view, it's possible that helping like this in Africa will lead to making something better in the US as well - and maybe even in other nations too.

It's a matter of us (living beings) all being ONE. We are all "brothers and sisters." We are all part of the same power and part of the same love circle. Unity exists between all of us - EVERYWHERE. There is not a line at the border of the U.S. The UNITY between souls is so much bigger than any government of any country.
Of course Oprah can do whatever she wants with her money. It's hers. If she wants to buy as many diamonds as possible and stick them in a room somewhere - that's her choice to make. But Oprah is a wise, philanthropic woman. And what a blessing that she's also wise enough to know that people's needs exist all over the world - and her giving doesn't have anything to do with politics.

I admire Oprah for helping others with her money.
I find no fault with her nor with Bill/Melinda Gates for that matter!
AND...as far as spending it in the US...for what?
We don't know haw to appreciate the kindness of others.
If Oprah had spent that kind of money in the US, some news reporter somewhere in the US would have been digging away at her motive(s), Congress would've held hearings on her generosity, and late-nite talkshow hosts would have been making lame jokes for days!

Your question sounds like you're second guessing her so that's why you're getting those answers.
It's her money and she can do whatever she wants with it....wherever she wants.
I respect her for making a difference in this very small world we all live in.
Just a side-note....she gives millions here in the USA also...we just don't hear about it as much.

it's her money so leave her alone people, some americans have been bickering about her issue. well, what she did was right because Africa is a very poor country not like usa, there are many people there still didnt receive well education and food so i guess Oprah was just lending a hand to these unfortunate people who been living stray and hungry.

PERSONALLY i feel that as a BLACK U.S. citizen Oprah should be taking care of HOME first. I am all for charity AND the support of our brothers and sisters in Africa; however, there are terrible conditions in the U.S. that need immediate attention. That's why I don't get why people travel all over to adopt when there are PLENTY of little boys and girls in need here at home. Now, I'm quite sure that Oprah gives at home too- I was just saying if all she gave was to the people of Africa and for the people who feel like they must travel world wide in order to give. There's no sense in that at all when we should be helping each other here, at home.

Of course She shouldn't have spent in the US. The US citizens are rich enough compared to those africans who hasn't got ever drinking water..what about medicines and stuff...So what do u think???
My opp that she is a good example, many more should be spent there, and Mr Bush should do that too, unless to bother in Irak..coz there are more important things than War.

It is her money to do with as she pleases. We all know that money could have been just as well spent in America, however I also feel that if more people are properly educated around the world then everyone can and will feel its positive effects.
