i'm a 13 year old girl and i have a gift for poetry.
i'm really good and have been told so by my teachers, friends and family.
even though that is not what i want to be when i grow up i would like to put my talent to use .
my parents have no problems about it.
so i was just wondering
how can i get some of my poems published.
i don't know any publishers and i don't know how to contact any.
by the way i live in the U.A.E.
(United, Arab, Emirates), sharjah to be exact.
so if u can help in any way.
then i am most greatful.
thanx a lot.
otherwise i'm giving out free '2 points' for any answer.

There are poetry contests for young people (your age) on the Net.
Do a search for poetry contests.
Don't enter contests where you have to BUY the book your poems are in. That's a scam.
You should get a free book or magazine if you win or your poem is accepted for publication.
Good luck.

Why don't you record your poems carefully for two years, then read back through them and see which ones you still like? Time is a wonderful tool for allowing you to see the real quality in your own writing.
Thinking back a lot of the things I wrote when I was a teenager are hard reading now - I expect the same is true for most people.
Give yourself time to review your writing, be picky with it yourself, and remember that other people can be harsh critics.
Keep writing and keep enjoying it.

You should also look for other people who can help you develop your 'gift' by 'reading' them out (publishging on a website - your own or a poetry one), or through special classes for creative writing.
You will probably find that yahoo groups will have forums on poetry and that would be a good place to start, too.
I think it unlikely that you will get them published commercially - you are a minor and also unknown. But good luck anyway.

Try the internet forums etc as recommended by the other answerers but also try sending some to literary agents who specialize in poetry you can probably google to find out what ones are in the UAE. There are also a lot of literary magazines that you can submit work to, it might be worth asking in your local library if they stock one and having a look to see if they are the kind of thing you would be interesting in submitting work to.

First of all, if I were you, I would learn how to spell. 'Thanks, as you can see, is actually written with a letter k and a letter s. NOT with an x. secondly, before you DO get published, you want to get all your work copyrighted. This helps to stops other people stealing or plagarising your work. check out the source below. hope it helps.
