if after one/two years u decide to continue with the same institution then it's called deferring. a lot of people do it, like take a break. but if after one/two years u decide to change institution, then u must check if they give u exemption on your modules, otherwise it's a waste of time and money to do the modules again. some institutions do not give exemptions and you have to start from first yar again. be careful with the decision you take.

Yes, actually. I had a friend who did that. There weren't any cosequences academically that were imposed by professors or the university, if that's what you mean. The professors were glad to have him back, actually. It was just kind of hard for him to get back in the swing of things. However, most universities, I think, impose a time limit for number of years to complete your degree after first beginning it, so the clock would keep running through that time. But if you still come back and finish before the time limit is up, your classes still count, and you should be fine.
