How often is it necessary to have your tires balanced? I have a Toyota Corolla with about 11,000 miles on it. I have had the oil changed twice and tires rotated each time, but I wasn't sure when to have them balanced. It seems to me that they should do this automatically when they rotate your tires but I know they don't. My last car had lots of problems from being out of balance, so I want to make sure this doesn't happen agian. Thanks! : )

I should mention that it is reccomended for my car to change the oil every 5,000 miles (which is why I have only had two oil changes so far). I am also on a pre-paid maintenance program where I pay an extra $20 with my car payment every month and then I can just take it into the service center for whatever maintenance is needed. I asked this because they told me it would be extra $ to balance my tires and I wanted to make sure I was only going to do that when I needed to. Thanks for all your answers guys!

i rec to rotate tires every two oil changes, so about 6000-7000 miles. balancing should be every 15,000 miles. or when a vibration in steering wheel or seat is noted usually at highway speeds. alignment rec every 12 months or 12,000 miles. the reason is nothing man made is perfectly round, so the tire nd rim are egg shaped and have a high and low spot (weight distribution) so adding lead weights to the rim edge "balances" the weight distribution. as tires wear down that distribution changes and changes the balance. poor balancing of tires can cause premature tire wear, drive line and suspension issues as well as void some tire warranties. good luck, i hope this is helpful.

If it's a rear wheel drive car, rotate tires every second oil change.
If it's a front wheel drive car, rotate tires EVERY oil change. Front tires are subjected to more load/wear on front wheel drive, because they have the load of not only steering, but also being the drive wheels.
I do not see the purpose of balancing more often than at most, once a year, unless you notice unusual wear, in which case, an alignment is in order also.

I recommend to have your tires balanced when you have them rotated. Some shops will do this for free, but most of them charge extra. If you have balance problems with your tires chances are the tire shop is not installing the waits properly and occasionally you can get a tire that not round. If you have one that is out of round talk to the shop where you purchased the tires and see if they will replace it under warranty.

For balancing, if you go from a back tire and put it on the front I would balance it right away. I re-balance mine every 25K miles, your tires do wear and go out of balance, I balance mine by myself at the local garage and it is very cheap, like $5 a tire. Never go cheap when it comes to your car, brakes and tires... never go cheap, when your car fails you can blame yourself for being a cheapskate.

when the tires are balanced the first time (when brand new) usually is plenty good, it doesn't usually get messed up unless you hit major potholes/curbs that bend the rim or knocks a wheel weight off..... as for rotating tires about every 10,000 miles sould be fine, (every 3rd oil change) assuming you change oil at the 3,000 or 3,500 mile mark.

Well my dad taught me that when u do that kind of stuff to your car that you should do everything and dont buy anything cheap. I wouldn't go to a shop simply because they charge $100 to do a job that would normally take around 2 mins to do. if you got the time to take it to a shop you can take the time to do it yourself. if all your doing is balancing th tires, and rotating them then you shouldn't have a reason to go to a mechanic. im only 15 and have built my own car from scratch....
